Larch Workshop
Argyll, 2022
The client’s home sits overlooking an ancient oakwood in Argyll, Scotland. In her efforts to preserve and expand this woodland, the list of daily tasks and collection of tools is ever expanding. To create additional space to accommodate this, the Larch Workshop was designed and built over a period of three weeks.
The timber structure and waney edged timber cladding is made of locally felled green larch. The larch was milled on site and to minimise waste the workshop was designed to best use of the timber available. A two metre wide window sits central to the workshop space, providing ample light for working and generous views out over the woodland. Set amongst a stand of young birch trees, the cladding will silver over time.
