Deppers Bridge Farm
Warwickshire, 2019 – present
A Grade II Listed Building in Warwickshire, the original timber frame farm house was built in the 17th Century, with numerous extensions constructed in the Victorian and Edwardian era. More recently, the farm house has been poorly maintained. Under the modern paint and decorations, large areas of the historic building were falling into disrepair. This complex project consists of three phases; restoration, conversion and addition. Listed Building Consent for all phases of the project has now been granted, with the first two phases to be completed in 2023.
Restoring the original timber framed farm house will require the full dismantling and repair of the 17th century timber framed sections of the house. Following repairs, the interior of the house will be insulated and refurbished using materials appropriate for the historic building.
The Victorian brick cart-shed has been converted into a self-contained guest studio. Previously concealed by plasterboard ceilings and partitions, the historic structure of load-bearing brick piers and elm roof trusses has been uncovered. The resultant open space is used as a kitchen, dining and living area. A mezzanine floor and staircase has been slotted behind the roof trusses to provide a bedroom, with the service spaces beneath. New oak framed windows and doors fill the large openings between the original brick piers.
To provide a space for living between the original farm house and the south-east facing courtyard, a garden room will be added. A glazed, oak framed extension will continue the rhythm of the cart shed elevation.
